My Card
A downloadable project
If you're here, you probably scanned the QR code on a business card that I handed you (or you clicked in from elsewhere on itch). Said card can be used to play two games: Wine of Sicily and Penny Sumo. The rules for both can be found on this page.
You can find information on my other games via my main itch page.
Wine of Sicily
2-6 Players | 5-10 minutes | Complexity: Extremely Light
A true battle of wits for 2-6 savvy Sicilians, distilled down to one single card.
SETUP
Randomly choose a player to be the first Sommelier and hand them the game card.
ROUND
The Sommelier picks another player and passes the card to them face-down with the Poisoned side or Unpoisoned side pointed at them. When a player has the card passed to them, they do one of the following:
- Drink: Flip the card, and Drink from the Goblet whose side is pointed at you. This should be the same side that the Sommelier chose; Poisoned Goblets never become Unpoisoned mid-round and vice-versa. When a player drinks from the Poisoned Goblet twice, they are removed from the game.
- Pass: Peek at the side of the card pointed at you and Pass it to another player with that same side pointed at them. You cannot Pass to another player who already saw the card this round, BUT if everyone else already saw the card, you must Pass it to the Sommelier, who is then forced to Drink.
Once a player Drinks, the Round ends and a new Round begins with that player as the Sommelier. If that player has been eliminated, the next non-eliminated player to their left becomes the Sommelier instead.
GAME END
When a player drinks from an Unpoisoned Goblet twice OR is the last non-eliminated player, that player wins.
Penny Sumo
2 Players | 5-15 minutes | Complexity: Light
Penny Sumo is an abstract game with blind bid combat for 2 players. Get two of your pieces to the opponent's home row or knock out 4 of the opponent's pieces to win.
SETUP
Pick a first player. They place 5 pennies on their starting spaces (●). The other player does the same with 5 dimes, and adds 1 stone to their pool. (Use any small objects. You may substitute coins/stones for any other object as long as both players agree.)
TURN
Move 1 of your Coins two spaces or move 2 of your Coins one space each. Coins cannot share the same space. When one of your Coins would move onto a space with an opponent's Coin, it Battles that Coin instead.
When one of your Coins moves onto the space at the center of the board (+), you add 1 stone to your pool.
Coins in an opposing Home Row (a player’s Home Row is the row of 4 spaces closest to them) cannot move or be moved. At end of turn, for each Coin that moved (including the opponent’s), add 1 stone to your pool. You can’t have more than 7 stones.
BATTLE
Both players secretly choose some number of stones from their pool by palming them. When both players are ready, they reveal their stones, then immediately discard them. If a player reveals more stones than their opponent, that player wins and pushes the loser's Coin away from theirs a number of spaces equal to the difference, stopping in front of other Coins. The winner must move their Coin onto the loser’s original space, if possible. If the loser's Coin "falls off" the board, it’s knocked out and removed from the game. On ties, nothing happens.
GAME END
The game ends when a player does one of these:
- Knock out 4 of their opponent’s Coins.
- Get 2 of their Coins to the opponent’s home row.
That player wins the game.
